TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The couple should hold a minimum period of residency at the hotel of 5 working days prior to the date of the ceremony.
The wedding will take place in the hotel premises and it will be conducted by the Master of Ceremonies on any day between 8.00a.m. And 5.00 p.m. except on Saturday, Sundays and Public Holidays.
No one under 18 years of age is permitted to marry in Sri Lanka as according to Government regulations.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED (30 DAY PRIOR TO ARRIVAL)

Photocopies of Birth Certificates of the couple.

  • If Divorced or widowed Certificates of Divorce or Death Certificate.
  • Photocopies of Passports.
  • If unmarried an affidavit certificate should be sent.
  • The above should reach the hotel 30 days prior to the date of ceremony.
  • Also originals of above documents will have to be produced to the respective hotel minimum 4 working days prior to the ceremony.
  • The original marriage certificate with Sri Lankan foreign ministry approval and certified English translation will be available 14 working days after the ceremony.
  • Please note that if the gust need more copies there will be an extra supplement which the couple has to pay

Wedding album will be available for collection 3 working days after the ceremony. If guest depart before 3 days, the wedding album can be couriered to country of residence at a supplementary courier charge (which the couple has to pay) depending on address of delivery.

Our Wedding Co-ordinator will take delight in assisting you in the process of marriage formalities and licence from the local Registrar of Marriages, and assuring you of a completely satisfied Wedding function, at the end which, you will receive a Marriage Certificate registered in the hotel.
The Wedding Ceremony takes place in the pigeon island or on the white sandy beach of the Hotel ? on a gaily ? decorated elevated stage called ?Poruwa? ? the centre stage of the function, adorned by other customary arrangements like ? the Floral Settee-back and the Traditional Oil Lamp ? adding a touch of culture and beauty to the venue.
The Master of Ceremonies performs the marriage rites on the couple which procedure takes about 45 minutes in the above location.

These customs and rituals could be described in the following order;

  1. The Kandyan Dancers and Drummers in attendance, accompany the couple separately from their rooms to the ceremony area (First the Groom and then the Bride).
  2. After the customary blowing of the Conch Shell ? the Master of Ceremonies invites the couple on to the elevated stage (Poruwa) to the beating of Drum.
  3. The Master of Ceremonies then begins chanting and invoking blessings on the couple for few minutes.
  4. The bride and the groom then exchange a ?sheaf of Betel leaves? to each other, which is done seven times. This symbolizes the Bond, Unity and Love in their Marriage to last for 7 Generations ahead.
  5. Next the Marriage is bound by the tying the index fingers of the couple with a gold chain and pouring of water on the two fingers from an urn, whilst the Master of Ceremonies chants blessings from the Gods.
  6. Then the couple exchanges Wedding Rings with each other.
  7. The next ritual is feeding each other with Milk Rice and Water ? which is a vow that the bride and the groom will look after each other and see to each other?s needs.
  8. Then follows the singing of Wedding Praises (Jaya Mangala Gatha) by a bevy of young girls attired in White Saree (After their singing, these girls are presented with cash gifts (in an envelope) as a token of gratitude, which is typically Sri Lankan ritual.
  9. The Master of Ceremonies then leads the newly-married couple out of the stage, in the midst of chanting of praises and beating of drums. As soon as the bride and the groom step down, a coconut is broken into two, to bless the couple with children.
  10. The Traditional Oil Lamp is lit by the couple-which denotes the Light of Hope and Success in their marriage life. (The custom of lighting the Oil Lamp is a long standing ritual followed at many special.
